This introductory HSW course explores smart privacy glass and how it can support safer, healthier, and more functional spaces. Participants will compare privacy and solar-control technologies, including how they perform, switch, and respond to power loss. The course also looks at common applications and covers key considerations for selecting, specifying, and coordinating smart glass systems.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Explain why visual privacy is a health, safety, and welfare consideration affecting dignity, stress, focus, comfort, and safety perception.
Distinguish privacy-first technologies (PDLC, PNLC, PSCT) from solar-control technologies (SPD, electrochromic, thermochromic).
Evaluate power-loss behavior as a life-safety and dignity decision in privacy-critical spaces such as healthcare observation openings.
Specify a written sequence of operations covering normal control logic, overrides, power loss, maintenance mode, and restart behavior.
